Alaska: Anchorage Daily News letters
Last week, in a post titled Alaska’s Law Challenged, I shared the letter I’d written to our state’s largest newspaper in response to a letter calling for changing Alaska’s homeschooling law.
I was pleased and surprised earlier this week to receive a nice email note from Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor, Loren Leman, applauding my letter and promising continued support of homeschooling.
Today I received notice that my letter and a number of others have been printed in the Anchorage Daily News’ letters section!
My favorite quote comes from local homeschooling leader Heidi Kroeker’s letter: “Children didn’t come with a manual. We’ve sought resources to develop parenting techniques and advice which is fine. But letters and propaganda that try to force parents to be regulated, watched or made to conform are alarming. As is requiring someone else to decide what my children should or shouldn’t learn. These children are my family, not someone else’s.”
These are all marvelous letters, defending our homeschooling freedoms in this state and explaining very clearly why there is no need to meddle with a homeschooling law that’s obviously working very, very well!
